Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an empirically backed, public education and prevention tool that teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. It also improves the public’s knowledge of mental health problems and connects people with providers to help improve their mental health.

Mental Health First Aid is very similar to traditional First Aid and CPR, in that MHFA was developed to provide help to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis until professional treatment is obtained or the crisis resolves.

During the MHFA training, participants will learn a five-step action plan to help loved ones, colleagues, neighbors, and others to cope with mental health problems.

There are several different options:

    • The MHFA is for adults wanting to help adults.
    • The Youth MHFA is for adults wanting to help youth.
    • We have specialized modules for adults who work with Veterans, in Rural communities, or who work with Older Adults.
    • We also have specialized modules for Law Enforcement and Fire/EMT.

The classes are 8 hours in person that can be in 1 day or divided into 2 days. There’s a new option called Blended, which is 2 hours self-study and 5 hours in person for Youth and 6 hours for Adult.

We do have a Virtual option and a Teen MHFA for teaching teens, but please contact us for more information about those. Continuing Educations Units (CEUs) are available for certain professions.
